Don't Look Now but your Zeitgeist is Showing
So you thought all of that search stuff was just to help you out finding things? Nah... Don't you remember O'Brien's First Law of Business: "Nothing a company manufactures or sells is necessarily for your benefit. While you may derive some benefit from it, the purpose behind the product is to enrich the company and keep it in business."
Google's been collecting the information about all of those searches you've been doing and they've created a Zeitgeist. (Zeitgeist, German word: Zeit meaning "time" and Geist meaning "ghost," Zeitgeist means the spirit of the age or times. The trend of thought and counter-thought specific to a certain temporo-spatial environs. I know 'cause I looked it up.)
It's a collection of the top things people have searched for during the year. "Based on billions of searches conducted by Google users around the world, the 2004 Year-End Zeitgeist offers a unique perspective on the year's major events and trends. We hope you enjoy this aggregate look at what people wanted to know more about this year." And not just this year. Google's Zeits have been Geisting since 2001.
Okay, I have just one question... Why do you people (worldwide, it seems) want to know so much about Britney Spears?
