Cell Phones as Tour Guides
There's a new way to turn your cell phone into a walking tour of your favorite metropolis. Talking Street just launched walking tours by cell phone in lower Manhattan, Boston, and will soon launch in Washington D.C..
According to Wired News: "Tourism expert and New York University professor Hannah Messerli said she thinks cell-phone tours probably won't take the place of a tour guide or guidebooks, but they could help places that don't yet have lots of guidebook documentation." The downside: you have to pay for the whole tour. If only they could have a little icon on buildings or places that you know look interesting in some vague historical way, and then pay 10 cents for a little sound bite instead of a whole tour, but that's just me, I guess, for now.
