Bye-Bye IE, IE Bye-Bye...
From The Independent Online Edition: "Back in July, the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) in America - now an arm of the US government - noted a security weakness in Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Among the suggestions CERT made on how to avoid hackers exploiting this weakness was simply to change browser."

The question is, did CERT's affirmation of this problem/solution help it to become part of the government and, if so, shouldn't all of us who knew the same thing months, if not years prior, also be getting government checks in the mail?

OK so my question is...what browser is recomended? How much money was spent to "discover" this earth shaking news? How much money will be spent to "discover" a better browser?

try firefox, you can download this from www.nethomehelp.co.uk, this is a free web browser and has no flaws like IE

Anon, I very much doubt that firefox has *no* flaws, or even not security flaws. The security flaws just havent been discovered yet, and as for flaws in general, it doesnt work with sites that require ActiveX. I consider that a flaw, though some consider it a feature.

You can get an active-X plug-in!

RAINMAN

IE has it's problems (understatement) but it still is the overall best browser. I remember people trying to push Netscape down everyones throats (gag). Firefox is ok, but it still has a waaaaaay to go before catching up to IE. Enough on the MS bashing. Geez, instead of just switching browsers why stop there, just go ahead and install Linux :) and quit bitching already :)!!!! Sorry but the incessant MS bashing is really getting old!!

I've been using Firefox/Mozilla for over a year now. V.1.0 is stable and does not have the security holes that Ie does. However. there are some sites that don't work with Firefox. SUCH AS ALICE AND BILLS!. I found this article quite funny since their site doesn't work in firefox.
Web content developers need to at least TRY to be cross platform/browser friendly.

But they are aware of the problem, as found on their own site: http://www.aliceandbill.com/2004/11/mozilla-rendering-problem.html

As the article states, all it takes is a 'Refresh', and all is well, or at least it is in my Firefox. I wish they, or someone, could figure it out, but to me, it's more a minor annoyance, than a 'does not w*rk' issue. A bug, yes. A broke, no.

My not-so-humble comments:
- Linux (and it's apps) is bound to have many flaws, but crackers devote much more energy for the windows (and it's apps) instead of Linux.
- MS bashing is only good if there is actual intelligence behind it, most people just love to spout off so it tends to get more than irritating these days
- Opera is still my favorite, especially Opera 7 which actually supports DHTML stuff (what a concept, was missing from 6, whoopsie). With Opera, you can always click a single button to stop downloading images, probably the most important feature, I hate just about all graphics.

what's the Firefox ActiveX extension called? I can't find it.

Bill, the comment about aliceandbill.com not rendering properly is true. I have to reload a couple of times occasionally when my screen fills up with garbage characters after the A&B header. You guys might want to look into that (have the interns do it!).

I dont have any issues with Firefox and this site.

As for bashing MS, I personally like MS software. But even I have to agree that Firefox is a better browser than IE.

Thanks, Scott, but we've been aware of the problem for about a month. See:
http://www.aliceandbill.com/2004/11/mozilla-rendering-problem.html

Unfortunately, while we control our blog, we don't own the blogger software in which it resides. That's Google's domain.

I never saw this problem until I upgraded to 1.0 of Firefox. If anyone knows how we can fix this, we promise eternal thanks and fame on our website. Nothing in our template has changed to cuase this sudden mess. The only thing that helps right now is hitting refresh. Our apologies. --Alice
