Moron of the Month?
Think of all the dumb things you can. Now add riding (standing?) cross country on a Segway. Yeah, I know, that probably wouldn't ever cross your mind. But it did to somebody. How did the trip go? Well, here' an answer to one of the interview questons:

It seems like one of the practical difficulties is that you've got a range of what, 10 miles per battery charge?
Exactly. That adds a whole logistical element to it. We're changing a battery every hour or so when we're on the road. And we need to have a place to charge 15 batteries every night...We've got a Jeep Cherokee that follows me with all our film gear and Segway gear.

Ah! Practical applications for technology. You just have to wonder where the Donner Pass is when you need it.

I could not agree with you more, and it's ashame no one knew about this until he was done. What a waste of time and energy. To bad he was not doing this for a cause or something?

Actually, he was/is doing it for a cause. He's part owner of a film production company and he and his friends quite their jobs and filmed the trip. They'll be releasing a movie about how Amercia looks from 6-inches off the ground or some such.

I smell a blockbuster!! Oh, wait, that's just my toast burning. Never mind.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

That "guy" is a former college roommate of mine. I just don't get the meanness directed him and the rest of the team.

I don't think I'm going to read this site anymore.

Get over it dude. Just because you KNOW him doesn't make him any less of a moron. He's not running, walking, or doing some other physical activity. He's standing on a segway across America. Pointless.

Sorry you feel that way, Todd, but it's definitely not being mean. If he is your old college bud, then maybe you might want to find out what the point was, if there was one other than that no one else had done it yet. I don't think anyone's rolled a pistachio nut cross-crountry with their nose either. Maybe this is just a segue to a sequel.

Have you guys even looked at their website? http://www.10mph.com. The purpose of the trip and stories from the road are listed there. I don't seem why you think this guy is such a moron. And I agree with the earlier post that thought you were just being mean - that Donner Pass comment was a little over the top.

Guys.... it's a Segway. Nothing about that device inspires one to take it seriously.

They could have made the same journey by walking or riding a bike or a scooter or whatever and seen the same stories. The only difference would be that the focus would not be on the mode of transportation. Since the Segway is involved, it inevitably IS the story. And since the Segway is a SILLY device... well, fill in the blanks.

If you'd rather I said "The Darwin Awards" I could make the case that he might have been run over by a pushcart vendor while traveling through New York City...

This is a nothing accomplishment for no other reason than to gain attention for themselves. The basic premise has been done and re-done eternally --probably starting back with Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. They didn't have a Segway but, fortunately, they had Sacagawea and her brother, Cameahwait, provided them with horses to get over the mountains. How could they have possibly done that without a Jeep Grand Cherokee!

Meaness? Come On? Don't you mean honesty? We have been honest. Get over it. So what. He was your bud. I have plenty of buds from the Navy and If one of them did this I would be the first to email him and say WTF are you doing this for. Seems like a waste? I guess att he same time. What ever it takes to make you happy. If that is what it took for him then more power to him. We would rather not see you stop reading a sit because you feelings got hurt....then again. Yes we would. At least I posted with my name.

Have you guys even looked at their website?

Yes. I will be nice. It looks like a really well done site. To bad the sponsor fo the site get nothing out of it. To bad he got no air time until the end of the freaking trip. But it is a very nice site. I like the clean lines and well placed sponsor logos.

Not only is this pointless, but now we can call him a sellout. If he was doing this to make a movie should he not have funded it some other way, and why would a sponsor get onboard with a project like this?

Yes, I am mean. Yes, I do not like people who do silly things and want undue credit, and yes I make up my own mind and don't conform to the idea that because everyone else likes it and thinks its a good idea I should too.

LAME! LAME PROJECT! Hope he make a wad of cash and proves that we are all wrong.

Who would ride down I-25 in Colorado in a car much less that thing.....can't be to bright?

Oh...I got one more...

If it were such a good idea then why did the Segway company not sponsor it? OR did they and they arn't telling us?
