iPod Mini Colors Are Everywhere
Here We Go Again Dept: The original iMac sparked an instant wave of translucent devices, like answering machines and cordless phones, and ok, I'll admit I have a green semi see-through phone somewhere that I still use.

Then came the iPod Mini and it was deja vu all over again. Kyocera launched a line of digital cameras, in the iPod Mini's 5 color scheme, and now as before, Apple coloring is starting to take hold in the industry. Music streaming company Slim Devices has launched an updated version of its Squeezebox music streaming device for your PC to stero listening pleasure.

Why is that everyone seems to fail on the color thing but Apple? Is it because they do a series of five and not just one bright red version or one pink model? And does that mean that the Squeezebox will fail since they only have four colors and not five? (And no, black doesn't count.)Hmmmmmm.

Any ideas?

I got a translucent blue V-Tech phone back in the day. Man, that thing was a cheap piece of crap, but it did the job.

I just got an iPod mini. I would say "in silver", but it's not. It's regular ol' undyed anodized aluminum. And it's gorgeous. It matches my regular ol' undyed anodized aluminum Lian-Li and Shuttle XPC cases. I love it.

Don't forget the Canon and Olympus cameras that just came out. I was in NYC when the Olympus kicked off their new colored cameras in the fashion district with some sort of fashion-show tie-in. I didn't pay much attention, but there were banners and ads everywhere (duh, NYC).

Oh, Creative just released a 5GB Zen in all sorts of colors, too. Or they're just about to? That's what I was shopping for when I got the mini, but nobody had it and I was impatient.

I like colors, but they've gotta be well done, and I think that's where everyone else fails. Apple has a really amazingly talented design team, and they choose appropriate, tasteful, lovely colors for their products. In addition to that, as with the iPod mini - they do it well. Dyed anodized aluminum won't chip, and is quite resilient to scratching, so it will hold up over the long term. Granted, you're not going to be carrying the Squeezebox around in your backpack or clipped to your belt, but what's with that name, anyhow.
