Move Over Google, Here Comes Clusty?
For those who thought the battle for search supremacy was just going to be between Yahoo and Google, a whole new round of challengers is hitting the scene, including the new Clusty cluster search engine now in beta.

The premise: "Clusty is the search site owned and operated by Vivísimo that aims to change the way people search online. It uses our award-winning Clustering Engine to organize search results into folders grouping similar items together. Thus a search for ‘pearl’ organizes the top 250-500 results into subject folders such as Jewelry, Pearl Harbor, Pearl Jam, Steinbeck Novel and Daniel Pearl. Clusty allows users to focus on the area of interest without all the chaff."

That's a whole lotta searchin' goin' on.

needs a new name.
now my head is filled with images of Clusty the crown shilling Clustyburgers

So, are we getting tired of the tons of results google returns? Fewer results then. I could've thought of that. :D
Now seriously, I don't think I will use this unless I am really unhappy with google results.
Also, the logo is deffinately beta. :)
PS: What is it then, Clusky, of Clusty?

What's the difference with Teoma?
Logo and and interface asside, it looks like the same concept to me.

Clusty is an odd name, especially when the article seems to insert a random space after the C. C lusty? Regardless, it doesn't seem to distinguish itself from Teoma, other than the blue-collar-centric logo. We're clusty! We could be an ASE Certified Mechanic of search engines! Use us!

Although it doesn't seem to offer any real innovations on the search front, I found the interface of kartOO to be interesting. www.kartoo.com It's been a round a while, but hasn't really managed to make a name for itself. Still, fun to play with once or twice.

It's B-E-T-A. It's allowed to look stupid. The ugly logo doesn't effect the search results.

I've never ran across that clustering type of search result grouping before and I found it very useful. I wouldn't mind seeing that type of idea integrated with AltaVista.

That something is "allowed to look stupid" doesn't mean everyone will politely refrain from commenting on the stupid-looking-ness of that thing.

Take me, for instance. ;p

BlinkX is similar to Google Desktop Search. Type in some keywords, and it simultaneously searches your documents, the web, and the news. It's not as fast as Google Desktop, but it's cool.

While I don´t feel Clusty has any chance at all to even nibble at Google´s marketshare, I think that this clustering (foldered responses) thing is a good innovation. Just because Google has been so good in the past does not mean that it is the only site with any real earth-shaking developments. I know that I, in my school research projects, could use something like this, and I think that Google should continue to take a look at the competition and upgrade its offerings to continue to offer the best options in search. And yes, that is a hideous logo.
