Google Launches New Desktop Search Feature Another Day Another Search Engine Breakthrough Dept: Google released an interesting beta today called Google Desktop. The program will index your hard drive and search Outlook mail, Word files, Excel spreadsheets, AIM discssion threads (scary) and even secure web pages. I think the only option left may be an ethernet port in my head for a Google brain search.
Ok, so I'm lazy. I don't want to take the time to sign up for yet another username/password combo to keep straight.
Though, if I DID keep my passwords and user names on my computer (but I don't ... I'm not THAT lazy), the Google personal computer search tool would be a nice way to find things.

I use my computer a lot. I also save everything I do for my clients for the day when they ask "do you remember ending me ... ". It happens, though usually right after I've archived stuff and tossed the CD into the fire safe.
Interesting tool ... didn't take very long to index what I have on this machine ... though it didn't really tell me it was done either ... I figured it would complain if I had closed the window prematurely. Behaviour is pretty good for Beta software (wish ALL software was as polished as the Google Betas I've seen).

Also wanted to say thanks for doing this work ... too bad about the CS gig though. I do notice you've gotten quite a few items posted days before it appears on Slashdot (and I'm sure it was just my ISP having a bad day ... not you thanking /. here that locked me out of /. for about a day. Imagine slashdotting Slashdot by mentioning them on Alice&Bill).
