BBC Declares Sun "minor player" in climate change.
According to the BBC, the sun is only playing a small part in the recent claims for global warming. "The research, performed by two Danish meteorologists, suggests another factor is involved --probably human activity."

"Probably!" What a great word to express scientific accuracy! Let's see, we get closer to the sun in the summer and it gets warmer; we get farther away in the winter and it gets colder; the sun has been involved in almost 100 years of unprecedented solar activity shooting hot gaseous plumes our way yet it's having only a minor effect on our climate... It is amazing to me how facts can be discarded, bent, bruised, or otherwise ignored when they don't fit an agenda. So let's do the scientific thing, probably. If the summer temps get too hot we can all cut back on driving our vehicles and it will cool down. Conversely, if the winters become too bitterly cold, we can all jump into our gasoline chugging SUVs, start a convoy, and warm things up in no time.

Remember, according to the BBC, we, the people, are more powerful than the sun!

Actually, the earth is further away from the sun in summer then it is in winter. In 2004, perihelion, the date that the earth is closest to the sun, fell on January 4. Aphelion, the date that the earth is furthest from the son, fell on July 5.

Further, the average temperature of Earth at aphelion is about 4F higher than it is at perihelion. Earth is actually warmer when we're farther from the Sun! -- See http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast03jul_1.htm for more on the effect that aphelion and perihelion have on global temperatures.
